How it works
What your assistant can do
It works in your DocSpring account with the access you give it, and looks at the pages it makes to check where your data went.
Set up templates
From a PDF form, a Word document or a description. It finds the fields and shows you the pages.
Fill them in
Test PDFs while it checks the result, then live PDFs and Word documents when you ask for them.
Send for signature
Signature requests to one or more signers, with our emails or links that you send yourself.
Organize your account
Folders, versions, webhooks and email actions, with the access you give it when you sign in.
Things to ask
Start with one of these, or tell your assistant what you need in your own words.
In a chat
-
Design a certificate of completion template with the recipient's name, the course and the date.
-
Create a template from https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf, set up its fields, then show me the first page.
-
Generate a test PDF of the invoice template for Brightwater Studio, with three line items of your choice.
-
Send the lease to Maya Chen and then Daniel Ortiz to sign, in that order, with a reminder every 3 days.
In a coding agent, in your app's repository
-
Create a DocSpring template from forms/application.pdf, set up its fields, and generate TypeScript types for its data.
-
Write the code that fills our onboarding template from a customer record with the DocSpring SDK, then make a test PDF to check it.
-
Make a test PDF of the lease template for each customer in fixtures/customers.csv.
-
Move every template with 'Draft' in its name into a new folder called Drafts.
You stay in control
When you sign in, you choose what your assistant can do, and anyone in your account can disconnect it.
- Read only, read and write, or full access
- Most assistants ask you to confirm before they change or delete what's there
- Free, watermarked test PDFs while it tries things out
- Disconnect it on the Integrations page, and its access stops
Skills for coding agents
The DocSpring plugin adds our MCP server and agent skills, which teach your agent how DocSpring works: setting up templates, checking test PDFs and writing code with our SDKs.
- Open source on GitHub. Claude Code, Codex and GitHub Copilot update it through their plugin marketplaces.
- The plugin connects the US server. For an account in the EU, add docspring-eu as shown above.
claude plugin marketplace add DocSpring/skills
claude plugin install docspring@docspring
codex plugin marketplace add DocSpring/skills
codex plugin add docspring@docspring
/plugin marketplace add DocSpring/skills
/plugin install docspring@docspring
gemini extensions install https://github.com/DocSpring/skills
grok plugin install DocSpring/skills
npx skills add DocSpring/skills
This installs the skills only. Connect the MCP server with the setup above.
Questions about connecting your AI
Read the MCP server guideWhat is an MCP server?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other apps. DocSpring's MCP server gives your assistant tools that work in your DocSpring account: it can find, create and fill in templates, make PDFs and send them for signature.
Do I need a DocSpring account first?
No. When your assistant opens DocSpring to sign in, create an account there with Google, GitHub or your email, and it connects straight away. There's no API token to copy.
What does it cost?
Connecting is free. Test PDFs are free and have a watermark, and your assistant makes test PDFs unless you ask for a real document. Live PDFs use your account's credits, as they do through the API. Setting up a new template's fields uses your account's free AI pages for the month, then credits, and combining PDFs always uses credits.
Which assistants work with DocSpring?
Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI and Grok Build, and any other MCP client that supports remote servers with OAuth sign-in.
Is my account in the US or the EU?
If you sign in to DocSpring at app-eu.docspring.com, your account is in the EU: connect https://mcp-eu.docspring.com/mcp. Otherwise it's in the US: connect https://mcp.docspring.com/mcp.
Can my assistant see my submissions?
With access, yes, and their data can include personal data. Connect only assistants your organization allows to handle it, and choose Read only when the assistant only needs to look.
How do I disconnect an assistant?
Open the Integrations page in DocSpring. Each connected assistant is listed under Connected apps, and anyone in the account can disconnect it there. Its access stops straight away.
Is DocSpring secure enough for financial, insurance and healthcare documents?
DocSpring is SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA compliant, and keeps your documents in the US or the EU. We sign a BAA on every paid plan: contact [email protected] before you send protected health information. Enterprise customers can also run DocSpring on their own servers.
