DocSpring Emails Your Signers

DocSpring now sends your signature requests for you. It emails each signer a link to sign, reminds the people who haven't signed yet, and emails everyone the signed PDF once it's ready. Until now, your app had to send the links itself.

A signing email with Acme Property Management's logo, a short message from Ann, and a green Review and sign button

Signature requests you create with API v2 are emailed by default. An AI assistant connected to our MCP server can send documents for signature too. You can:

  • Have people sign in order. With signing_order: sequential, DocSpring emails each step once everyone in the step before it has signed.
  • Send reminders to the people who haven't signed, as many days apart as you choose.
  • Write the subject and a message above the signing button, with the signer's name and the document's name in them.
  • Send a copy of the signed PDF to up to 10 more people with cc.
  • Show your logo and brand color, which you set on the Account page, in the emails and on the signing page. This needs a paid plan or a credit pack.
  • Choose the sender name, the reply-to address, and who hears when a document is completed or declined, on each template's Emails tab. On the Growth and Scale plans, emails can come from your own address at a verified email domain, and the button can open a signing page on your own site.

The signed PDF is attached, or sent as a download link when it's over 7 MB. The audit trail records every email, each signature request's email_status says whether its email arrived, and the signature_request.email_bounced webhook tells your app when one bounces. The emails don't use any extra credits.

To keep sending the links yourself, or to embed the signing form in your app, set send_email to false. API v1 never emails signers. See Emails from DocSpring.
